Exploring Animation

Ophelia
  • Creation of the painting was in the year of 1851-1852
  • Painted by Sir John Everett Millais who was part of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
  • Materials used were of the following Small brushes, oil paints, porcelain palette and easel’s.
  • The painting of Ophelia shows a woman who seems to be drowning in a lake in the middle of some sort of forest.
  • The meaning of the painting is to portray a broken heart of woman who goes to drown herself in a lake.
  • The art style is romanticism as its in Victorian times

here's is how my game will look for the art work i may add a few more touches as i go ahead with the

here is how my game looks like in construct and i have manged to add my walk cycles successfully. i'm also using Parallax in my game to create an illusion of more depth in my game although it's only 2D

Here is my mind map for the collectable of my game as well as the release chamber or the design in which i will be doing.

In the following pictures above i have created my release chambers which are a flower bed and then a dead flower bed. my collectable is a flower. the flower represents life and when it is taken out of the flower bed its taking the life out of the grass.
Here is my Release design for my game i went with a flower bed because i thought it matched the design of my game very well.

Here i have a critique sheet of my work and what i could do to develop my game further and i took this in mind whilst i was making tweaks to my game

Here I was tasked to create a game but first I had to choose an artist and I chose an artist called Sir John Everett Millais and I am going make it a 2D side scrolling game it is going to be a digital game for people who like playing on consoles or PC's because I thinks that they are made for game uses the subject of the drawing is based on a women who is drowning in a lake the type of game that came to mind was an role playing game of some sort  I chose this because it had attracted my attention to the artist because his art style was romanticism art because he did his work it Victorian times. the game ill be making will be having a realistic esc. because I wanted it to be similar to a role playing game and Sir John Everett Millais. because that is where of the whole thing had come from but I made some few changed to it so it can look different and stand out more the materials that I have used was a soft brush tool for the game like the back ground and for the game character ii had only used the soft brush tool for this part of the game and material I used was appropriate for art style I had been working on because the art style is romanticism  I had learnt a few new tips from the artist because when I’m doing work that is similar to artist I know how can improve and what I can work on while I have been using these materials I had learnt something new the technique that Sir John Everett Millais used was very smooth strokes to hard strokes too portray the realism  towards his own work because he had been creating many realistic paintings of his time I  had chosen a different type of technique towards the artist I have been doing a Surrealistic type of  technique because it was similar to artist that I had been working on the technique made me think about my image because I had to think about in was going to be drawing out the his own work and make it up to a suitable standard safety issues I haven't come across any safety techniques with the drawing I was influenced by the artist because his work was outstanding  by how his work had turned out to be because when I had to look up Sir John Everett Millais I was expecting his work to be related to love and romance however it wasn't although  my work was influenced by his Ophelia peace because that what made me come up with my idea for the game that I am working on I was trying to do a similar  to the artist that I had been working on I used quite a few similar shaped to drawing that I had done for my artist interpretation I also used a similar colour for the Knight my art work is in a similar style towards my artist work with the whole tone of the painting and  what I can do differently is by focusing more on the art style of my artist because I think that it is slightly off  because of the colour and the fact I have some different colours however i could improve my knight by changing up the colours and shades of the artist work. whilst in the progress of making the game I only came across one problem witch was the ground i couldn't get a realistic texture.  I was sort of struggling with that part but I had managed to sort it out myself  I had managed to fix the problem by using a reference I was trying all sorts of things but I had to focus on it properly I am 50/50 with my art work it’s not best I have done but I feel like I can improve on it different parts of the drawing  I wasn't too sure how it would turn out to be but I only just tried my best I will develop this piece of work on a digital platforms for the art work and for the game

Evaluation

My project was to create a game demo by the 3rd of March  as well as to explore animation, whilst using the same art style of the artist i chose which in my case was Sir John Everett Millais painting Ophelia . My game idea was about a knight who had to collect special flowers to create a potion to save Ophelia who was in the lake. i came to this idea for my game by researching the painting and looking at it in detail. After i looked at the painting in detail i started to brainstorm ideas of what i could possibly do for a game idea and then i decided as its Victorian era that ill do something based around a knight. After i came up with the idea i started to experiment and started thinking about the scenery so i designed a level design to have a general knowledge on how my game will look, i made this level design on paper and  then developed it more on Photoshop which i prefer to use because i can add more detail onto my designs when i'm using Photoshop and use my imagination a lot more. Now for my Brain storms i used PowerPoint which i prefer to use over photo shop as it comes across a lot more presentable when you're looking at it. I also used a various of techniques whilst creating my game such as the following; Animation frames this is where i made the walk cycle for my character on top of that i used Low saturation colours to give my character more of a Victorian style. once my character was completed i inserted it into construct as a sprite so it could be moved. i then interested my walk cycle into the animation timeline so my character would look like it's walking. Also in the creation of all structures of my game i ensured i used the Rule of power of two which is a simple as it sounds i would create my character or structures in pixels what are in the two times table for example 64 by 128 would be a resolution size i would use, for my character design then 256,256 would be one of the sizes for my backgrounds and from inserting my backgrounds i seemed to run into a problem of my background would not follow my character so i had to change the parallax of my background so it would act as it's side scrolling. other problems what i ran into where scoring systems so i had to add in a global variable so when ever i would collect items in my game it would show how many have been collected on top of that i had to add instance variables so i could have conditions. But once i over came those problems my game worked perfectly fine and i honestly liked the whole objective of my game, but if i had one criticism about my game would be that my ground was not as textured as it could of been. as well as i could of possibly developed my game a lot more by adding more detailed coding so i could have a lot more cool things. but to some up i think my game is pretty good and that i managed to
