Here is a time line showing progression of German Expressionism.
Here is my very basic character build what I was tasked to create in class today as you can see I went with a more modern style using very dark colours for the body of the design and a white face to add contrast to the piece. As well as having my shadow along the trees which is too large for a shadow.

Edward scissor hands has a direct link to German expressionism films and style as it has the Insanity side of Edward and the us of lots of shadows throughout the film which we see a lot of in original German expressionist films.
Batman is another good example of modern day German expressionism as it has the sinister theme to it as well as the spooky side which is seen in all of the German expressionism films.
The crow has many examples within the film to portray German expressionism as you can see in this picture the person looks like they're crazy which is one of the main points of the films

Sleepy Hollow is another perfect example of German Expressionism as you can see in the picture there is someone locked up and as you know a lot of German expressionism showed a lot of people who were locked up and essentially enslaved.

Dark city is about a man who loses his mind and struggles to remember anything and he becomes insane and this is a common factor of German expressionism in most of the films involving a killer especially
Here is a mind map of 4 possible ideas I am thinking of making the two what peek my interest are Science lab and the back streets of a set of houses. I think I will be able to portray German expressionism perfectly in those scenes.
In today's lesson I made a mood board of buildings, shadows and lighting what i tried to capture in this mood board is all the main properties of German Expressionism which is over exaggerated Shadows, out of proportions, monochromatic, weird angles and high contrast lights
Here is a mind map of me thinking of possible ideas of what i could create for my final piece of work.
Here are my refined sketch overs from my silhouettes i made as you can see i have refined them pretty well and that I will be able to come up with lots of interesting ideas.

I took a lot of reference from Dr Caligari for my windows and my whole scene as you can tell i have the same type of buildings and even my windows have the same kind of lighting as they do, I personally just thought his style looked really cool and draws me in.
I think my presentation didn't go very well in class as on the day I wasn't very well at it came across as I was joking around along with that I missed out on some key information of my presentation which didn't look very good when it came to presenting. However to make my presentation better I could of had a lot of more enthusiasm towards my presentation. I personally think I kept my blog up to date really well and you can see my progress of my work easily and my problem solving.
Here is the Form of composition I used in my work which is the Rule of Third
Here is my final piece in the genre of German Expressionism, as you can see from mine I have adapted the out of proportion objects and buildings to my piece however I don't have that "sinister" look to mine. although I still think I manged to create a pretty good piece of work.
Here is two gif's of my work the first gif has a loss of detail due to my file being way to large it was 60cm's by 45cm's and was not able to render out correctly and was a big problem so i had to edit each layer to down size the layers to millimetres as that was a much better size
Evaluation
When I first Started my project I did various experiments one of the main ones was watching German expressionism films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis and Nosferatu. All of these helped in my progress of coming up with my silhouettes as I had a lot of inspiration from the movies and the different shapes and all of the lighting from the movies. These were the biggest influences on creating my scenes. However how I started to plan my scenes was with the rule of thirds which is a form of composition aside from the golden spiral, the golden spiral wouldn't of worked due to the structure of my whole piece. I didn't really learn any new techniques in this project because a lot was prior knowledge from other projects and just applying in to this project, however a lot of the research I did was on all of the movies I watched especially Dr. Caligari as I took a lot of references off of his work such as: Windows, and the open street scene. When it came to doing my animation I did have a lot of possible ideas and opportunity's for my piece, however i decided to go with the lights in my scene to all turn off one by one as that would be the biggest impacting thing to happen on my scene as well as doing that I also added a ghastly figure to go across one of my bridges.as you can see in my animation.

As a whole I am quite pleased in the way my final piece turned out as I think I captured German expressionism quite well in my piece however if I had to change anything in my piece it would be the background as I personally think its bland, My animation as a whole is a good animation I possibly could of made it a bit of a more cleaner animation but I still wouldn't change anything about my animation as I personally like it how it is. As a whole I could of managed my time a lot better than I did as I never had as much time on my animation as I wished which left me to rush parts of my animation which I do not like doing as you can see it on my work that it looks rushed and sloppy at some parts.
